Cuba was once a very friendly place to the USA, BIG mob connections and that was the basis for Fidel s revolution.

One Mr. Batista was a real good friend of Uncle Sam, hence the base in Guantanamo.

But long before that, in the 1700s and 1800;s the Brits were there and in late 1800, the marines landed in Gitmo. see URL below.

...we have a 99 year lease on the area from Cuba... way back when... before Luke and Darth Vader and R2D2 "we" kicked some butt as a result of that...we leased the land...
Someday it will go back to Cuba... (Castro will be long gone and a new Government established)...
