Thanks to Nintendo and their flagship 8-bit console the NES, we are still playing video games. In 1983, the video game industry crashed and Nintendo revived the industry with the release of their 8-bit console dubbed the NES or Nintendo Entertainment System. Nintendo sold over 60 million of these consoles worldwide and thanks to them, the Playstation and Xbox systems are alive today.

The SNES or Super Nintendo Entertainment System was the system that followed the NES. It was a 16-bit system that was released around 1991 and during that time, video games started to see better graphics and game play. The SNES was the first system that had trigger like shoulder buttons labeled "L" trigger and "R" trigger. The SNES also boasted 4 action buttons labeled "A" "B" "X and "Y" that greatly enhanced game play. It marked the beginning of the system wars that continue today !

Nintendo is the reason systems like Playstation and XBOX are alive today. Sony basically stole Nintendo's shoulder button and action button idea. The Playstation controller has 4 trigger like shoulder buttons and 4 action buttons represented on the gamepad by symbols.

SNES was the console that came after NES. Like how Playstation 3 came after Playstation 2. I think NES was an 8 bit machine and SNES was a 16 bit machine.

the NES was the originial Nintendo Entertainment System, coming out in the 1980s.
The SNES was the next system Nintendo produced, called the Super Nintendo. Each gaming system uses different games, with the SNES being more advanced.

Twice the bit technology. That's the primary difference. Although the biggest practical difference is that NES cartridges would get gunked up with dust and fail to work, unless you blew into the cartridge until your cheeks hurt. The SNES, to my knowledge, has not suffered from this massive shortcoming. That's why no one uses an NES anymore; to get their fixes, they rom it up.
