SNAFU ("Situation normal all f***ed up") is a good one. SPUD is also an acronym, standing for "Society for the Prevention of Unhealthy Diets". This was a group in 19th century England that tried to steer people away from Irish potatoes! SCUBA is an acronym, too: Scientifically Controlled Underwater Breathing Apparatus.
