All you can really do is relocate! In many areas, flooding is natural and has been happening for as long as the Earth has been in existence. Investing in flood insurance is a necessity if you are located in one such area. I have seen houses built up on stilts so that they sit above the water level, however I would think that this would leave the houses more susceptible to wind damage? I know how devastating flood damage can be and I wish you the best of luck in “flood-proofing” your home.

Jack up the house and use stilts.
However, the wind may blow it over.
