Well I started hearing a gnawing noise yesterday morning and then again this morning. It lasts for about 5 minutes every day around 6:30 am. Well my room has a foam chair that isn't moved very often (and my bed) which are the only two things in my room not frequently moved. I rarely eat in my room and my dishes go out the same day they came in. Also there are no outside things that they can hide in that would attract them to our yard. For the four years we have been here we have never had a rat problem.

No poison suggestions. I have pets. Thank you!

How do you know for sure it is rats and not mice or squirrels?
Either way I would get some Raid Foggers and set t them off when you go to work. If that doesn*t work set out some poison; Get the kind that says for Rats just in case it is rats, also get some rat traps (they are really really big mouse traps)

Could be just mice. Put a few traps out with peanut butter on them. Put them under your bed near the wall, and anywhere else near the wall that doesn't get disturbed often. Then just wait. If you have rodents you'll find out in a few days. I've done this every time that I had a problem with mice, and it's never failed to turn up results. Usually in less than a week. Just FYI, I use PB because the little monsters love the stuff, and they can't steal it off the traps easily. GOOD LUCK.

PS. DON'T USE POISON OR GAS. They never kill right away, and will allow the rodent to drag itself off before it dies. You don't want a dead mouse in the walls of your home rotting away do you?

You need some traps in the house, and like others wrote it could be other types of animals making this sound, do you have a cat, they are good mouse hunters.
