My answer is that there is no God to begin with, and even if there is, given the state of the world he wouldn't be one worth believing in anyway.

Because while there are feelings associated with developing a relationship with God, that's not all there is to it...sometimes you have to take things on "faith"....Faith is a belief in the reality of something without tangible evidence of its presence. You are brand new to the relationship. Just like you were once a newborn baby, so you are now a newborn Christian and you have not yet developed the spiritual muscle to do much of anything yet. That's okay...we were all there at one time or another. What you need now is spiritual food (nourishment) and spiritual growth. You'll get the bulk of that through fellowship with like-minded believers and through reading and studying your Bible. The spiritual growth comes from going through stuff and sticking it out without faltering....just like lifting weights builds physical muscles. It's not always a pleasant thing to experience....in fact, sometimes it hurts, but the more you do it, the better you'll get at it, and the greater capacity you'll have for enduring more. That is spiritual muscle (the simplified version). Now, where should you start? Anywhere you start is fine, but it's best if you make it a personal challenge for yourself....how about telling "Jeff" the truth and see where things go from there? You have no guarantees that that's going to work out the way you want it to, only the knowledge that the truth is a better way to proceed in all things. So, can you take it on faith and do that? (This is your first spiritual challenge....and it'll only be this difficult once). You can do it. (See, God does move in truly mysterious ways).

The reason it doesn't feel like God has forgiven you for your sins is either because you haven't forgiven yourself or because you are unable to understand how anyone could forgive you for what you have. But God isn't a normal man, when you sincerely ask him to he forgives you without question, he holds no grudges, and he loves you unconditionally. To have a true relationship with God do what you would do with anyone else and talk to him. Pray to him about anything and everything, talk him about your worries and fears, talk you him in your times of need and talk to him in your times of prosperity. I would also suggest purchasing a Life Application Study Bible in the New Living Translation, it is written in easy to understand language and has many side notes that provide insight into the bibles deeper meanings and history.

If you just "asked Him to your life" You really don;t have that feeling of love yet. It comes with time. I'm "bad" catholic that doesn't go to church and pray every day, but I feel close to him. I know when I was going throught the worst time in my life he was there to listen. It takes time and patience to get that connection.... Pray... Pray alot with your own words... Talk to him... He's there watching over all of us.... Sometimes he says no to our prayers and we have to respect that. It's hard to explain those things... It's faith that He's there will make you feel that connection... and it takes time to built.
Hope i dont sound like some lunatic :)
