I was told by an eye doctor that it was normal for babies to have a turn or something similar with their eyes as they havent strengthened the muscles yet. He said generally it should correct its self after 12 months. But if you are worried it wouldnt hurt talking to your doctor about it.

Many times the eyes look crossed but really aren't because of the anatomy of a baby"s face. When you look at your baby see where the light spot hits his pupil. If it is in the same area on each eye, then they are not really crossed. If you still think they are crossed then ask your pediatrician. The earlier a vision problem is caught the better for the development of your baby.

You should have him seen by a developmental eye Dr. not a pediatrician for this. what you are describing is called an eye problem where the muscles of the eye are weak and sometimes don't work together. It is easy to fix with some gentle exercises. Until then use a lot of toys for your baby to track, hold them above his head and slowly move from left to right and then right to left, move them closer to his nose and then farther away again. Children's eye's developes at different rates but this will help him get control of those muscles.....

If this is a new finding, call your pediatrician tomorrow (in spite of what Jossie advises). This doctor should examine your baby in short order and probably recommend a referral to a pediatric ophthalmologist. If the referral is urgent, the pediatrician can "grease the skids" with a phone call to the specialist, avoiding the wait another responder complained about.

Over the years I saw many infants with pseudostrabismus, an optical illusion of sorts, and no referral was necessary. But, don't diagnose this yourself.

I noticed sometimes my sons one eye would move in. I thought maybe he has a lazy eye so we took him to the pediatrician and now we are going to the baby eye doctor but it took a month to get fit in. It's definatly something you want to correct early on so I would go see his doctor.

It's normal for a newborn but not for a 5mo old baby. Speak with your doctor asap because they may be able to do something before it gets too bad.

Maybe he wants to really look at something which is very close to his eyes.

He may be trying to focus but at the same time, at your next well check, I would ask the doctor
