Historically speaking, it's the last one out who will be remembered as "ugly and embarrassing" and we all know who that will be...

The tragedy is after the "Mission Accomplished" banner the signified the war was won, President Bush went about using the military and allies as nation builders, something candidate Bush pledged he would never do. The situation since war's end has become a civil war, which the military has to fight from static positions...a recipe for disaster.
A military that sits will not win...it can only hope for a draw....armies are designed to engage rapidly and win as quickly as possible....the withdraw will be like the Soviets in Afghanistan, but perhaps even more bloodier.

No I don't, the ugliness lies in Washington DC. Britain was bamboozled just like the American people were.
I hope they have the testicular fortitude to withdraw from Iraq and let Uncle George and Uncle Dick face the music
It is a shame that so many good American boys and gals and their families had to suffer through a war that need not have happened. Why do they have to pay the price for the benefit of individuals.
I would die for the good of my country, but NEVER to stuff the pockets of individuals, specially liars and cheats.

To inspire the desire to fight longer in the British people this statement was made.
Propaganda is the way of the Dark Side. To trick the weak minded it is meant to do.........
A ring of fire around the last withdrawing troops can be created. A "no-man's land" to prevent this as last troops are air-lifted out can this be done. Believe that the troops have to walk out only a fool would. WWI or WWII this is not. Withdraw it is...... retreat it is not.
"Withdraw" is to disengage. In every war has this been done. Better to sacrifice more lives for mistaken "honor" is it? No dishonor does withdrawal bring. Stubbornness brings death and dishonor. Stalingrad was this for the Nazis in WWII. Many believed it would also be dishonorable to disengage and by-pass the City they did. Nothing but defeat did staying there bring. Known today it is that had they withdrawn from it could Germany have made much better progress.

Yes.. Britain does face an ugly and embarrassing withdrawl. The Americans, even worse.
Mark my words.. the images you will see will look like the evacuation after the fall of Saigon. Helicopters grabbing desperate people off of rooftops.
Nobody seems to want to admit that there is no good way to leave. So I say, pack up and leave as fast as you can since the result will be the same no matter how many years down the road we are talking about.
It may not be pretty, but I see no point in throwing good money after bad (not to mention the toll in human lives).
Why do we insist on selling democracy to people who aren't buying and have no interest in even looking at our glossy brochure?

Yes, and our withdrawal will be no better. Today, the NY Times had an interesting editorial by some sargeants in the fray in Iraq. I have often been curious as to how many of the soldiers in the war felt about it, although I understand this article is not representative of every view. It was enlightening. See it here:

As an American, I'm still angered with England over the American Revaluation and the power they still hold in America so the British Military has always be an embarrassment, for the American Military unfortunately our leaders lesson to to British but embarrassment is not a problem, we all remember Vietnam again our leaders take after the British.

What is it about Terrorists you libs love so much? You await any portion of bad news, so you can claim failure in Iraq, You love to spew highly exagerated claims of the dead, and you push defeat as if it was something to cherish... may i buy you a plane ticket to Iraq? I would love to see how long you would last...

I'm not sure about "embarrassing." But they will certainly face the same problems the U.S. will when they withdraw. It's no big secret that they will have to fight their way back out. It's also common knowledge that the last few hundred troops will basically be slaughtered as they will be sitting ducks.

I don't think the troops should be harmed, or made to leave in disgrace. They are true heroes ,and give their lives daily in this unholy and unjust war begun by a tyrant and a devil.
I am afraid that withdrawal may no longer be an option, and that the battlefield will shift and expand exponentially in the coming years.
