Ok, my best guy friend has been my friend since 1st grade but has always been a grade above... suddenly he decided he would rather be in my class other than his class therefore moving to 9th grade from 10th grade. (we only have 1 class per grade) The problem is he has been acting like an idiot. He keeps treating me like i need someone to take care of me all the time and like im a little kid... but he does this in front of everyone! For example "you know you two shouldnt argue, "mystery girl" why do you have to argue with everyone? im going to sit in between you two so that you (meaning me, mysterygirl)dont cause problems" when me and my other friend (girl) were really just playfully bickering. He acts protective saying "ooo you shouldnt watch this part" when im actually the same age as him and wasnt the one that got freaked out by Behind Enemy Lines in 7th grade..he's like my father, my brother, and my annoying best friend in one! and Now he is in my class!!! i dont know what to do!

the way he treats me makes me feel like a little kid and it makes me see myself as an immature kid but i know im not. it extremely lowers my self esteem! and the way he makes fun of me like he was my brother and has that right is driving me crazy!! he makes all my friends laugh at me and makes me look like a complete dolt. im much shorter than he is too so it doesnt help that he loves looking down on me and saying HA! it makes me feel like i should be in 5th grade and i was really getting confident last year and really liked myself but now that im back with him my self confidence is shattered. please help

If you don't like how he's treating you, then tell him! Don't hide what you feel, girl! Tell him that you don't like how he's be a little too protective and that you're free to make the decisions you want to make. Don't pound it on him too hard though, you'll either upset him or make him mad.

You raised some good points....women struggle with self-esteem issues throughout much of their private and professional lives just because of this sort of well-meaning, yet over-bearing behavior from men. (The truth is, his behavior is probably tied into issues he's currently having with HIS self-esteem, none of which is your problem). So you do need to assert some control (establish some boundaries, perhaps) so that he is clearly aware that this behavior is not appreciated and potentially robs you of your own self-power. If he's any kind of friend he'll hear you and respond accordingly...if he can't (for whatever reason) you may have to raise your voice a bit. I don't sense he's being mean-spirited about it, in fact, he probably needs you far more than you need him and this is his chosen way to express that. So I would expect he could hear your concerns and respond reasonably without too much trouble. But whichever way he takes it, you must get that point across. Learning to do so now saves you an ocean of grief later, because trust me, it will come up again. Good luck.

i know u r much smarter then he is cause he is underestimating u like idiot kids & thinks u r a litl kid 2 b taken care of.
Just tell him politely in friendly manner that it has always been fine even he was not there 4 u ..b4 he moved into ur class, n he will just understand it...its worth 2 b said then 2 made fun of u in front of others, if he is relly good at heart 4 u , he ll respect ur feelings n not do it again, but if he has such idiot habbit or he just does it 4purpose n enjoys it then how come he is ur friend, thn only choice left 4 u is 2 start ignoring him n tell him 2 keep his nose out of ur issues if he still tries 2 annoy u.

O thats um not good. If hes ur best friend then you need to tell him to stop doing it & just let you live your life...WITH U deciding what YOUR going to do not HIM deciding WHAT YOUR going to do - i hope that makes sence lol!

I know, if i were u I would be fine with staying home for the rest of the year watching TV and hiding under a blanket. I dont know what to tell u, but maybe just ask him to stop.
