helps motor warm up faster and run smoother when cold,,,,flipper should shut off manifold heat to carb when warmed up... air should come through snorkel at that point

Called a hot air stove on the manifold and a thempature controled air intake when the choke is on warm air atomizes fuel better than cold air. You can't get those pleated paper and foil hoses any more. You might be able to adapt Volkswagon air pipes to work.
