How does one end up with lastnames as Christ or King or Pope without raising an eyebrow from communities?

conservatives would ask... you are not "Christ" or the "King" or the "Pope"... why should you have a lastname like that?

I'm pretty sure that it's possible to have it rejected. I remember earlier this year when a Chicago Bears fan promised all his friends that he would legally change his name to Peyton Manning if the Bears lost the Super Bowl. When he went to file for the change, the court disallowed it because they felt that it would infringe on real Peyton Manning's privacy.

I looked it up. No, you cannot change your name to anything that you want, legally anyways. To legally change your name, you have to get a Court Order and/or appear before a judge and tell them the reason why you want to change your name. There are five limitations on name changes, and "naughty or violent words" is one of them as well as famous people's names (ie Jesus Christ).
