a former tenant who refused to give forwarding address had a parcel delivered to my home 3 weeks after he left. i did nothing with it, but didn't send it back thinking he or a friend would eventually show up and ask for it. now he is threatening me with some vague Federal violation. Am I in the wrong for sitting on the thing? PS it was sent Federal Express, not USPS and there was no signature - it was just dropped off.

HE didn't leave a forwarding address or phone number for you to reach him at and FED EX left it without it being signed for..

It could have been stolen off your porch before you even saw it, so he is lucky you got it and were nice enough to hold on to it for him and you didn't throw it out or open it.

Tell him he owes you storage fees and to F--- Off

You may keep anything addressed to you personally, even if you didn't order it. Something addressed to another person is not yours. Keeping it, is stealing and depending on the value you could be liable for a misdameanor or a felony. If it was shipped across state lines, we're talking federal offense. If you had obvious knowlege that it was not intended for you, there's little defense you could bring against the charges. If it's valuable and you safeguard it for the lawful owner and then seek him out and return it, then you might have a civil case for a finder's fee for your efforts, but it ain't yours. Finder's keeper's is for kindergardeners.... the law is for grown-ups.

I thought the term was "bitter hag" but I guess "douchebaguette" would suffice...Although, that makes me think more of a yeast infection cuz the whole "baguette" thing-and douching can cause an overgrowth of candida(not to be confused with Canadia).

Of course you are wrong! At minimum it should have been returned unopen to the shipper.
