I live in Minnesota and like having a 4 wheel drive vehicle in Winter. Would AWD vehicles be as effective as 4WD on snow and ice?

Probably better, since they are always on. with the 4WD cars and trucks, you have to put them in 4 wheel. With the AWD it is already there. Either one will get you out of the ice and snow. If you don't want to mess with the shifting then go with the AWD.

AWD is great in the rain too. Both are excellent on snow and ice. If you don't go off road (like 90% of 4WD owners) awd is the way to go. Be sure to check gas mileage and fuel requirements. Many AWD require premium fuel.

awd is all wheel drive all the time. so u better get the 4wd, so when u dont need driving with 4 wheels, u can put it in 2wd which saves gas.

Yes, they are basically the same.... as you know AWD is just 4wd all the time. Either will do great in the snow.

If you want safer travel on the slippery stuff, get at least one of those options.
