Have an International truck with a gas carbureted engine. The left saddle tank fuel pump has quit working. Would like to replace the in-tank original fuel pump with an external fuel pump. The external fuel pump would have to draw from the bottom of the tank to the top of the tank. Was wondering if a fuel pump with a 4-7 lb. pressure rating would draw from the bottom of the tank all the way to the top of the tank and to the carburetor?

Truck is a 1976 International 2010 Series. Original in-tank fuel pump not working. Will an external fuel pump with a 4-7 lb pressure rating draw fuel from the bottom of a saddle tank to the top of the tank and feed a carbureted gas engine? This to help clarify and earlier question.

Correct me if I am wrong 1980 and earlier International Harvester trucks had a mechanical fuel pump on the timing cover of the motor and that pumped fuel nicely all the way from the back of the truck "Travelall" to the carburator. Saddle valve and knob to switch tanks thru the drivers floor board. Any leaks would cause problems air in the fuel lines. Fuel was picked up with a filter sock in the tank and syphoned down to the mechanical pump. Electric pumps don't stop running when the engine stalls and electricity sparks and fuel is not good. I just don't remember more than one electrical wire to each saddle tank and that was for the fuel level sensor. Pick Up. Travelall or Scout?
