my question is: does your celebrating your birthday a sign of getting older or getting wiser? or both?

"age doesn't always bring wisdom. sometimes it just comes alone."

Happy Birthday Lioness wow 18 what a great age I think for your age you are remarkably smart with your answers to my questions :))) I hope you celebrated with friends and family and did something fun on your special day :)))For me my birthday was a few weeks ago at the end of July I feel that I have learned something a valuable lesson as a turn another year older. Its always a reflection stage that I am in right before my birthday this one was peaceful and not to depressing but I have learned from my mistakes and feelings and thoughts from the year before and not to make the same errors again based upon my tribulations :)))I seek wisdom every day of my life but its always around my birthday that I truly become enlightened & somewhat at peace even just for the day that I was born :)))) Happy Birthday and many more Godbless always smart girl :)))))

Judging from some of your Q&A I have noticed in the past month or so, I just can't believe you have just turned 18..... I must then agree that wisdom is not entirely dependent on age!! However, age brings experience and that is what has a great potential to create and refine wisdom. Perhaps, some people gain wisdom at a young age due partly to an insightful mind and partly on account of having been through struggles of life already...... obviously depends also on the quality of life experiences which some young people like you may be privileged to have had at an early stage itself!!
Incidentally, when I used to be too young, I never admitted that there was any correlation at all between being old and wise. I was not able to distinguish between intelligence/insight and wisdom!! It took me some time before I could realize that there was no alternative to experience, even though the same experience can have different impact on different people so that some learn from it while the others don't.

Many many Happy returns of the Day!!!!!!!!

Getting older is a material distinction. Our true self is eternal.

If we are wise about education we may get knowledge.
(Education could be material or spiritual. Some education is more in the darkness while some education is more in the light.)

Through real knowledge we may get wisdom.

Through knowledge and wisdom we will get enlightenment.

What is on the top ten list of primary topics to reach everyone in the world with mass communication? How would education, knowledge, wisdom and enlightenment rank?

Start becoming wise whenever we are able. Better to start late in becoming wise then to never work on becoming wise.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!
It's a sign of both. Enjoy it while it lasts! You only turn 18 once, and your bday only comes once a year so step away from the computer and party hard !!!!!! (Just not too hard... it's probably not the best idea to go into a coma on your birthday).
Have a wonderful birthday :)

If its a birthday, you are getting older. Whether you are wiser, that's up to whether you are learning more and how you are applying that learning.

Congrats on surviving the first 18 years. :)

Happy birthday! My 18th birthday didn't mean necessarily getting older. Maturity didn't come until I had all the years ahead of me. I wasn't mature until I was forty. Yet an 18th birthday or any age birthday makes me grow and have more fun.

this site talks about How to get Old vs Getting Older...

How to get old

Here are some ways that I have observed in which people can get old:

Hardening of the references - Don’t confuse me with anything new or a different way of looking at things.

Seven last words - The seven last words spoken before someone gets old are

“I’ve always done it this way before.”

Less laughter - I’ve heard it said that we don’t stop laughing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop laughing.

How to get older

Learn from life and it’s experiences - If you are the exact same person as you were 20 years ago, then I would suggest that you have wasted 20 years.

Laugh - Laugh often: at yourself especially.

Learn from those that have gone before - Others have gotten older before us. It amazes me how so often we do not take advantage of the opportunity to “sit at the feet” of those older and wiser.

Grow old or grow older - it’s up to you.
