Some friends of mine and my Sister have receieved emails from "Banks" such as Nationwide, Natwest, Barclays etc and actually they are not.
They instruct you that there has been a fault and you need to re-enter some personal information by clicking a link. It says if not your account will be restricted. The website when clicked looks exactly the same, but don't be fooled. Your bank will never ask for personal details.
These people are very clever and will gain your informaiton and transfer money from your account. The funny thing is my Sister doesn't even have a bank account, shes only 12!

Just thought I would warn you. If you get an email forward it on to the bank mentioned, they will deal with it.

These have been common for months now. The purpose is not only to try and gain information about you, but mainly they are malicious because they give a phone number for you to ring which is the real number of the bank they purport to be, so that the banks lines get tied up with hundreds of callers. Just ignore, the banks already know about them so don't inundate them with forwarding them on because you're only playing into the spammer's hands.

My husband got an email the other week claiming to be from the Halifax, telling him that his account had been locked, but he could unlock it by clicking on a link and doing something or other. He doesn't have an account with the Halifax and never has. Needless to say the e mail was deleted straight away.

I've been getting them from the Royal Bank of Scotland - endless, they go straight into my bulk folder now.

Apparently, legit banks never ask for personal information via e-mail, so anything asking for account numbers password etc should just be ignored.

Thanks for the info.
Best thing to do in those cases is just delete them and then if you really must check things with your bank, enter the banks web address in a different window, never follow links on emails.

Are they signed by George Abdgwengo? Do you think they'll clean the pigeons out of your bank account? They just want to give you the monies! (86,000 Ugandan Dollar)

this has been going on for several years now. Its not just happening with banks, but any financial institution.

Scammers set up phony sites that mirror real sites. The term is Phishing..

i have received the same type of e-mails. even though they use the bank's logo it is all a scam. no bank would ever send an e-mail asking their depositors for personal info. PLEASE don't anyone fall for it. the ones who sent the e-mail will clean out your bank account and never be caught.

Thank you.
I haven't received anything yet, but if I do I will certainly heed your advice and contact my bank immediately.
I will also forward this advice to all my friends and family.
Cheers.
