My mum and dad are having a party with their old friends, and they asked me to make a cd with hit songs from the past decades... They're 46 yrs old now, any ideas of songs that they listened when younger??? (Abba, Beatles, Bee-Gees kind of thing...)

It's better to put song titles, not artists...

Here's a few from that generation, I'm a little older then your parents but I listened to these when I was a teen and in my 20's so it would be about the same time period.

April Wine, Bad Company, Barbara Striesand, Bee Gees, Billy Joel, Carol King, Carpenter, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Donna Summers, Elvis Presley, Harry Chapin, Helen Reddy, Hollies, Janis Joplin, Jim Croche, Lional Richie, Olivia Newton John, Roberta Flak, Rod Stewart

Hope this helps, good luck with the party and have fun, you just may like our music.

Flock of Seagulls - I Ran
Mr. Mister - Broken Wings
Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It
The Police - Roxanne
The Cars - Moving in Stereo
Blondie - Heart of Glass
Pretenders - Brass in Pocket
Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon
Tom Petty - Refugee
Glen Frye - Smuggler's Blues
Don Henley - Boys of Summer
Prince - When Doves Cry

There's just way too much to list. I'm actually your parents' age and if I were having a party with my old friends, I'd keep it kind of mellow. Although I love Floyd and Zeppelin, I'd keep them off the CD.

Go to Billboard.com. They have archives of top 200 charts going back to 1967. That should provide you with a database of artists who were popular at particular points in your parents youth.
