Only what can be obtained thru IRS and the Social Security as for basics; no one is responsible for employment records for a closed company

Probably not.

When a company goes out of business, most of its records get destroyed, except those that they are required by law to keep for some number of years, but maybe not even that.

Plus you have to figure the cost of access.

When the company was in business, someone would call the HR dept & they would look it up in the company computer records.

After company closed:
* There is no computer
* There is no HR dept
* There are no employees
* There are no managers
* There are no offices

Who do you call? Well some law office may have some files of the company in some filing cabinets in some warehouse..

(UK law basis)
If there was an official receiver then you could apply for your own records whilst the company records were still around - most would not keep them for more than 3 years - many think two full tax years is the safest balance between having the answers you need and keeping records too long.

If the company just folded then you must try the company secretary or the directors - Companies House can help here - but not on Sundays!

usually its required by the feds that a company has a contractor to take care of employement records. besides if a company gets an inquiry about your employment, all thay can tell them is "yes, so and so worked here from this date to that date."

That is a good question. Maybe not. Do you have any paycheck stubs to use a verification?
