I would argue against us being in the age of reason and rationalism implied by both technology and science... just take a look around yahoo answers.

Where next? Hopefully a shift to a more profound understanding of the rational nature of the universe and away from superstition and myth.

Some of these answers show a complete lack of understanding of what evolution is about.
It is the selection process that goes on where mating pairs choose instinctively (without rational thought) a mate that shows a positive survival attribute, eliminating anything with a lower chance of survival.

Thus it was that the scientific brain evolved to have superior problem solving abilities. However, like all physical attributes this brainpower is distributed in magnitude randomly across the population. Science can be used to eliminate all 'odd' aberrations that are likely to be unacceptable- like two heads, but this is not to say that it is morally right to do so .Scientists CAN also painlessly and slowly eliminate the worst diseases and illness but neither of the above is evolution .
What is likely to be evolved out of the population is the lack of ability to handle technology, as it becomes increasingly more important to use technology to survive.

I think the next level of evolution would the incorporation of the technology into our bodies, making us more dependent that we already are. If you look at the way medical science as expanded our lives (and improved quality of life), it is not too far fetched to think that in the future they will implant certain technology into our systems when we are born. And the person who evolves to handles this the best will continue on.

I also think our legs may become weaker, because we do not use them to the same extent as we once did - they are not vital to survival.

My examination of humanity tends toward the psychological, spiritual and sociological. In that light, I'm disturbed by my observations about where we're headed.

In America, at least, I've noticed a disturbing lack of empathy among our teens and young adults. They didn't miss the parental geas to give children everything they could possibly want, to put children first and in many cases to protect them at all costs. Whereas other generations learned they were subordinate to adults in social situations and most decisions, these young people were taught to think of their desires first, their rights second and other people a very distant third.

I believe we will have a very segmented society. Young people will form a very distinct class, with economic advantages but much more detachment from their families and from older people who have different values. We will have the age of consumption, which has already begun but will expand phenomenally as this new generation seizes its adulthood with both "entitled" hands.

Evolution is a natural process which may get retarded for us humans.... because we have begun to solve our difficulties through science and technology. In my view, the next stage would be mechanization of human interactions and demise of family and social order.

It is 4:30 am not sure if I can answer this.

I don't think of it as evolution but more as distruction or the planet. As humans we depend more and more on technology that we will eventually not need any other human contact.
We lose our humanity and the plant goes downhill..it is doing it already.
