Many. Former NJ Resident where the hurricans usually end. Lots of flooding. Lots of rain and dangerous conditions. I had a job with the railroad so had to be out in all types of weather.
Some were so bad the power would be lost for a day or more. In one instance the flooding was so great it destroyed a town. Also all computers were out, from the flooding. Could not use a credit card for several days during this problem. Lost phone service on several occasions.

Let's see
I was born in 1961, and moved to New Orleans in '64. Betsy hit in '65. That was my first. Camille followed in the late '60's. I can't remember all of the others' names, Andrew was one, Cindy another.....Then came Katrina....You said 'no bad words', so I will refrain.
It has been my experience that the storm itself is very survivable, if you are prepared. The aftermath is tough. It requires forethought, preparation, and fortitude.
I would never recommend that anyone should weather a hurricane. There is no reason not to evacuate. My wife, and I have no children, and are stubborn fools. We make sure our families leave, and stay behind to clean up afterward, save the deep freezers, and protect our property.
Helpful hint: Duct tape soup cans over the plumbing vents on the roof, otherwise the wind "plays" the pipes like a flute, making an eire sound.
