-I seem to have no problem writing the word gay, but i just can't say it. How can this be?

It took me awhile also. But with time I'm comfortable in my skin and can say the word if needed.

Maybe you are still getting used to the idea that is what you are or want to be. Maybe it is this cultural taboo which is quite powerful. I am sure that with time you will not feel so uneasy about using the word. Yes, I think it doesn't help that so many people are still so anti-gay. Maybe you are worried about their reaction when you use the word? One day people will just take you as you are and not judge you by you sexual preference. That would be a wonderful day.

Have you gone through a lot in past? Like have you lost friends from telling them that you were gay, or your family didn't accept it? Maybe it's hard for you to say it, because it brings you back to the times of struggle that you had to go through, when you had to actually think about your sexuality. Or maybe you feel a little ashamed, like you let a lot of people down (not that you should be feeling this), or even that you don't like how it's potrayed in society, and that you are that word that people use to refer to stupidity or something like that. and the you tube account name doesn't say much, because you tube is pretty privat, and personal not like myspace or facebook.
well i hope this helped, and don't be afraid to say it, it's something natural!

Hey that's perfectly ok. I had a HUGE problem saying Lesbian (and I am one)
No matter how much I wanted to or was proud of it, I just couldn't say it. And I found it so odd.
But now it's much better and I can actually say it with pride. but before I would use words like 'gay', 'dyke' or 'queer' coz I didn't want to use Lesbian.
I would say it in my mind repeatedly coz I was ashamed of not being able to say it and I desperately wanted to.
It passes away, trust me, you're still young, as am I. And I think that's just a stage where that happens to a few and then we learn to finally accept it in our subconsciousness.
Don't worry about it. I feel so much better saying the L word now (pun intended) and feel THAT much prouder of it now that I've finally accepted and come to be proud of it.

Because the term gay is ridiculous. It is a superficial label that does little to interrpret who you are as person, yet is still powerful enough to be the basis for automatic social dissaproval. If there is a question asked of your sexuality, say that you keep sex where it belongs....in private. I think the fact that we are so open about what goes on behind close doors is weird. I don't walk up to people and say I am a hetero and even in discusssion, I always say I am what I am. Though at times angelina jolie makes me question that...hahhahhaha

It started out as an innocent little word which used to mean "happy". Unfortunately, its use has been grossly changed to include all elements (good and bad) of an entire lifestyle, insults, and as a synonym for "lame" as well.
You are judged by the words you use, so if you have trouble using this one, try using other words which are more appropriate and more specific in their meaning. Nothing gets lost in translation this way.

I completely understand. Gay doesn't bother me so much, but seeing people say or write "gays", or "a gay" For example: Why do "gays" have limp wrists? Or, is George Michael "a gay"? I seem to take as an insult. I don't like the more harsh words such as f@g, d*ke at all from ANYONE. I hate it when gay people refer to others as "family". That irks me. Plus, I don't like saying or hearing people say I have a "partner" or "lover" instead of a boyfriend, or after marriage a husband. Plus, I would never refer to my boyfriend as my "friend" or my "buddy" to anyone. I either refer to him as Jerry, or my boyfriend Jerry, or simply my boyfriend.

Are you sure it's not because gay is now used for almost anything that is "naff". Dyke has always had slightly insulting connotations but gay's okay. Maybe it's because gay refers slightly more to the male side?! What about lesbian, is that okay? Maybe a new word should be invented. Lesbian's a bit harsh. dunno. Do you need to have a label? I don't. Anyway gay means happy, so just be happy. x

It seems to me a pity that the word as come into common use meaning homosexual. I used to be in the laundry industry and we had a supplier of detergents and all their products were called GAY this and GAY that long before the word was misused. They ended up having to rename their products
