I am working with a UN agency in an African country. I am a contractor so that means my job has no guarantee,no reward, no leave and on top of all half the money.
I had my old chief back from New York with a higher position but he is no more working in my department , he met me a almost a month ago and he told me that he would help me in getting a permanent job.......Since now there is lot of unrest here and UN need more and more people, there are lot of vacancies and new people are coming everyday, hundreds of interviews are taking place everyday. I am very puzzeled as to what to do? Should i go and remind it to my ex Chief????

You should prepare a resume, take it to your old chief, remind him (politely) that he said he would help you get a permanent position, and ask what he needs from you besides a resume to help with that.

Also, start sending your resume to other people.

I suggest you try to understand that almost all people around the world have jobs but there are many who are still unemployed and they have to do it or else they themselves won't have jobs if they don't do their part and yes
