Yes, the Big Oozy has certainly taken a hit in terms of respect. Things will be better next time, simply because most of the areas flooded during Katrina are now condemned and vacant. Many of their former tenants have joined us here in Houtown. Lucky us.
Blanco's declaring a state of emergency for a storm in the Caribbean likely headed for Mexico or south Texas nearly a week before landfall seems more about politics than preparedness. Reminds me how differently Miss. and La. handled their respective problems during Katrina.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.
According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

The smart and good people of New Orleans would get out at the first warning of a hit. The drugies and pimps would stay hoping to make free money from the Government like they did last time. After it was all over, the politicians would be pointing fingers again and blame the governent for any and everything that did or did not go wrong. They wouldn't take any blame except to say I told you so! and vote for me I can fix it (after a big pay raise)

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco is declaring a state of emergency Friday night as preparedness workers continue to monitor Hurricane Dean's path toward the Gulf of Mexico.
The move allows local governments to begin enacting their own emergency plans if they choose to do so.
At the same time, Blanco is sending a request to President Bush asking for a declaration that would allow federal resources to flow to the state should the storm strike any part of the Louisiana coast.
The powerful storm tore away roofs, flooded streets and was blamed for at least three deaths on small islands as it entered the eastern Caribbean on Friday.
The Atlantic hurricane season's first named storm is a Category 3 storm with sustained winds of 125 mph. It's expected to continue westward past the southern coast of Jamaica and toward Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.
Based on projections, there was a slim chance of the storm jumping northward toward Louisiana. Still, it was enough of a chance to put Louisiana emergency preparedness officials on high alert.
Mark Smith, with the governor's office of emergency preparedness, said all critical state agencies would be staffed through the weekend.
They'll be ready, if needed, to make calls to contract workers who would move supplies to needed areas and to local government leaders who would provide evacuation orders

The levees will not be able to hold up. Sadly I think my hometown will be gone. I think they will get the NOPD to go around and make sure all the people who has no transportation get transportation. Lets all pray the Dean does not hit us.

My guess is everyone would stand around and wait for the government to come and wipe their butts again like last time, then complain because the toilet paper was too rough.
