I say its the Mailman, Karl Malone.
He is the second all-time NBA career leading scorer (36,928 pts.) behind Kareem Abdul Jabbar.
He is a 2-times NBA regular season MVP
He is a 2-times Olympic gold medalists
I only gave 3 reasons (from so many reasons), but that's enough to answer the question, why he is the greatest ball player to never get/win a ring?

Elgin Baylor, Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing...I remember when the Lakers picked Karl up, the opening night game against the Mavs...I was standing next to Dr. Buss and Karl underneath Staples, Doc had asked Karl to 'take care of things...' meaning make sure there was unity on the team now full of future hall of famers...I had hoped that Karl would get his ring (meaning the guys would have their fourth with Shaq, Phil, and Kobe)...it never worked out, although every nite that season at the stadium and on the road it was fun watching the team beat most of the league and cruise into the playoffs until getting flattened by Detroit... the Mailman was in fine shape although he was injured for part of the season and could easily have hung around long enough to give Kareem's career points total a run, but decided he had enough...Charles though listed much taller was one of the leagues hardest workers at undersized power forward, and regularly defended centers and guards...a rarity for someone at his position...the suns were unlucky not to get a title during the bulls run in the 90s...Baylor played with the great Laker teams of the 50s and 60s with the NBA logo and icon Jerry West, averaged as much as 38.4 points a game for a season(more than anyone except Wilt) and 19.8 boards a game...actually left the team 9 games into the 71-72 season when they won a title...Patrick, also unlucky to be at his peak during the Bulls run was a strong rebounder , defender and go to scorer on the good Knicks teams of the late 80s and 90s

There are two players that rise above the others, and I give Elgin Baylor the slight edge over Karl Malone.
Baylor averaged 27.4 ppg for his career, 4th highest average all time. He also averaged 13.5 rebounds per game for his career, this despite being only 6'5".
But I give him the slight edge over Malone because his team made the finals 8 times. Malone made only 3. If not for Bill Russell and the Celtics, Baylor might have become one of the great winners of all time, with multiple titles. So I say he is the greatest player without a championship.

Karl Malone and Steve Nash. Karl Malone is known to be the greatest player never to win a ring and Steve Nash may not be in this category for long since he now has an all star cast and a likely sleeper, Alando Tucker. He was the second player to score over 2000 points in Wisconsin history (I think he was second..) and he was a great all around player in college but was drafted near last in the first round.

Without a doubt it's Charles Barkley. The man was aheck of a player. Rebounding and scoring monster, plus he was entertaining. One of the all time greats. Too bad he didn't win a championship though. Reggie Miller, Karl Malone, John Stockton and Pete Maravich come pretty close too.

Even the main bias and conceited followers would desire to attain that James is an exceptionally specific skills am i top? For a guy of his skills to in basic terms win a million ring in his occupation could be a shame. He has come close already with a miles less then marvelous group around him. yet hes a clever guy, he will hit upon a collection with gamers around him who can help him win, and im feeling no less than 3 in his occupation. If he can locate yet another famous guy or woman to play beside him like Bosh (that's commencing as much as seem relatively achievable) then he would desire to finally finally end up being the chief of a dominant franchise for the subsequent decade.

A few people have mentioned Utah Jazz players, but no one mentioned Pistol Pete Maravich. Pistol Pete played 10 years in the NBA and only had the benefit of the three point line for one of those years. Maravich was a five time all star, and had a career average 24.2 ppg- 16th all time. It is estimated that if Pistol Pete would of had the three point line he would of averaged 61 ppg in college. This man never received a ring, and is one of the greatest things to ever touch a basketball.

I loved John Stockton: I think that people who say John would have been nothing with out Karl (or the other way around) should be castrated. A little harsh yes but that man has gotten so little credit. For me he was one of the very best point guard of all time...(Magic is the best.).. he had the most assists ever...the way he managed to distribute the ball and lead his team...even Magic said he was the best at it and you know that mean a lot coming from Magic cause he himself was just sheer greatness. LOL....okies so he might not be one your best or anyone else but I just thought that I should mention him cause he should definitely up there on the list of the greats and he often gets overlooked. I rest my case.

During the Bill Russell where Russell won 11 NBA rings, then I would agree with a previous comment on Elgin Baylor who preceeded Dr J and MJ, but could fill the hole with the ball and rebound on top of that.
Post Bill Russell era, I would say George Gervin who won 4 NBA scoring titles and many All NBA teams.

Charles Barkley comes to my mind.
Karl Malone too and even stockton since he is considered by some the greatest point guard ever to play.
Active players include Nash( he will get one or many someday) Nowitski and Garnett..
