Do jewish folks really have a major influence on American foreign policy?

I was at a family gathering the other night... and my two cousins were arguing over this. One was claming this to be true,, while the other one said it is nothing but prejudice and nonsense filled hatred!! Personally, I am not a hateful guy,, but this argument intrigued me for some reason.

if they get involved with legislature-

if they actively campaign for a cause-

if they support positive change in the neighborhood-

The Jewish population of the US is pretty small, however, that 5% makes up a huge portion of medical doctors, lawyers and wall street leaders.
So the question is open to debate, and per capita they definitely have more influence over what happens in this country than other groups, but the idea that they personally direct the actions of the US government (which has been controlled by Christian conservatives for some time who think jews are going to hell anyway) is totally ridiculous!
(I can just imagine the prime minister of Israel calling and trying to tell Bush what to do - he would tell him to get bent in no uncertain terms).

That's a folk tale really. When one thinks about it, the jewish population in america is only at about 3%.

this is an idea promoted by the KKK and muslim countries. i'm not saying your cousin is an active member of the klan but they do promote the idea that white people who do not agree with them are jewish. and that this country is against them because it is ran by jews. muslim countries say that the US and england are ran by jews and that is why they help out israel and go to war with other countries in the middle east. then the general population hears people in the country and out of the country saying it so they think their is some validity to it. funny thing is though that the KKK wants us to bomb all of the middle east and muslim countries just want us to let them bomb israel.

They vote and can contact their congresspeople, but we can too. The far left use the Jews Are Taking Over conspiracy to instill fear. It isnt true.
