If you want to invest in the stock market, if you want to start your own business or work as a bank manager, accountant, lawmaker, if you want to become the President one day, or just a financial advisor or broker, a basic understanding of economics is a must. But if you'll never be any of these, then you'll still profit from economics, because it's an interesting subject, and with it, you'll be able to make better financial decisions in life.

Economics is like history, because there's a saying that those who don't know their past mistakes are doomed to repeat them. So, if you don't know economics, you may make some poor decisions which will cost you lots of money... If you know economics, you'll be able to avoid those mistakes. Also, be aware that just as history can be explained from different view points, economics can be taught in different ways, and therefore two economics professors may know the same stuff but have totally opposite opinions about things. There are many different economics books too. You'll see... ;)

A degree in economics has many uses and can lead into many careers. You could combine it with a teaching degree or diploma and teach, you could use it in a banking career, you could get work in insurance, investments etc. the list could be endless.
