I realize this is a generalization, but I would like to know how much of it is based on fact, and if there is indeed any artistic bonus to using a Mac. Personally, I'm a graphic designer who hasn't used a Macintosh since the "Apple"s in grammar school. Educate me.

(I didn't ask this question to start a flame war. I know that there are a lot of people with very strong opinions on this subject, but please keep it civil.)

I'm a software engineering student, and I swear by my mac. That said, Macs are dominant in creative and printing settings for the same reasons that PC's are dominant in enterprise settings: tradition.

Most offices have Windows machines, so most office software is written for Windows, so most office use Windows, so most office software... etc.

Most creative people use Macs, so most creative software is Mac centric (Final cut pro, Adobe CS3, Quark, etc), so most creative people use Macs, etc.

This is true because Macs appeal to the younger generation. Plus, Macs do have more creative software, which includes music, pictures, and movies. IBM is associated with business.

IBM's focus: to crunch numbers

MAC's focus: creativity to perfection
when you use a MAC, with its softwares as well, you really don't feel that you are coming across any technological limitation, as to, you can't do this in that way, in your graphics.

artsy people prefer them because they look nicer then some standard pc cases.

Software wise, windows is the best. Hardware wise apple is good but a pc is better (well, it depends)
