Depend on who you are and what you have always wanted.
If you have European roots, look up those countries, specially if you have often heard stories about how it was.
If you have a certain idea about what Europe is to you, say London, Paris and Rome, than no trip to Europe will be complete without them.
But if you are open to the continent, select your destinations on base of budget and sense of adventure.
West Europe is more expensive but speaks English well. East Europe, the former communist countries, is much cheaper but they do not speak English as well and tourism is not as well organized. (But it is improving in different speads in different countries, with some coastal towns in the south getting to the state of over developed.)
It also depends on the time of year and the length of stay.
Norway is stunning, but the season is short, June it is opening up and in September things close again.
Greece is also beautifull (I have been told) but the season runs form March to October on the islands and round the year in parts of the mainland, with summer temperatures that are no fun.
So if you travel in July you might go to Norway, but when traveling in October Greece is the better option.
And there is the wintersport season in the mountains, North (late in the winter when the days get longer Norway and Sweden have lots of skiing, often cross country in unspoiled stretches,) as well as South, (Spain and Italy have wintersport resorts,) East as well as West. (Poland and Czech republic have places rivalling Austria and France.)
For a good general trip I would say either Paris or London, a few days in the countryside of France, Northern Italy, Austria with a stop in Vienna, and Slovakia or Czech republic, and finish with a few days roaming Poland.
Try to stop several days in a big town and stay for just a day in a village in each country.

Spain beacuse of the great weather, people and festivals. I suggest going to either Madrid (because it's ther capital and is very cultural), Barcelona (has great night life and is very pretty), Valencia (which is on the coast and is suppost to be amazing), Malaga which is south and is so so pretty! There's great water parks there and great becahes and hotels! Also somewhere near there, firther south is Costa del Sol which is famous for it's beaches! Ibiza is a spanish island off the coast of Spain in the meditteranean and is absolutley beautiful. You will be blown away by the great weather! You can see the bull fights and the festival in which people run with bulls down a street, aswell as join in the throwing of tomatos festival held every year! (in Madrid I think).
Italy is a great one too. See Milan, Venice, beautiful Lake Como, Verona (where Romeo and Juliet is set), Pisa, Vatican city, amazingly beautiful Florence, Rome and Siena. Great cities and see the Colloseum in Rome! Many great things to see and September is a great time to go to Iatly, aswell as June/July. Weather is always great, nicest people I know and the language/culture is amazing! Sicily which is part of Italy (the football part of Italy, underneath the boot) is amazingly pretty. I toured pretty much the whole coast last July and Palermo and Cantanis were my favourites! Those two cities in Sicily are also where the main airports are located. The clear blue water, the hot sunny days and hot sand on the lovely beaches is to die for! The food is also great, it is the land of Spaghetti! (and pizza ofcourse). They make it from scratch and the best pizza and pasta in the world!
The most beautiful places in Italy I would have to say are, Lake Como (near Venice), Florence which is a beautiful little typical cultural Italian town, and Catania in Sicily.
So, Spain is great for families but Italy is just like no other experience, so I suggest Italy! Good luck, hope this helped! :)

some super beaches close to Dubrovnik (Croatia), it particularly is an particularly-sized city packed with vacationers, very thrilling place with a great sort of history. can not assure that's not warm however :-/ and that i don't think of they have sandy beaches. yet there are super boat rides around the nearby islands. Plus i think of Ryanair flies there from eire. in addition they fly to superb in the south of France, it particularly is an excellent city with a protracted coastline front, however lower back i think of that's regularly stones particularly than sand on the coastline. Or inspect Lagos in the western Algarve (Portugal). Ryanair fly to Faro it particularly is in the eastern Algarve so which you will could desire to get a bus, prepare or hire-automobile from Faro to Lagos. There are some super sandy beaches and caves close to Lagos and boat-rides to computer screen whales and dolphins. it fairly is a great-length city and could have a great sort of trip makers in the summertime.
