Which sulphide contains the greatest mass of sulphur in a 10g sample? Show all WORKINGS clearly.

A---Formula (NiS)---Mass of 1 mole is 90g.
B---Formula (CuS)--- Mass of 1 mole is 96g.
C---Formula (FeS2)--- Mass of 1 mole is 120g.
D---Formula (MoS2)--- Mass of 1 mole is 160g.

Many told me the answer is A. But I think the answer is C. Please answer only if you are 100% sure. Thank you.

This has nothing to do with last minute homework. I am revising for my upcoming pure Chemistry test.

Please take note of the phrase "10g sample". The question cannot be solved directly by percentage composition, without noting the 10g.

We calculate the percent ratio of sulphur in each compound:

A) NiS
32 / 90 x 100 = 35.55% S

B) CuS
32 / 96 x 100 =33.33% S

C) FeS2
64 / 120 x 100 = 53.33% S

D) MoS2
64 / 160 x 100 = 40.00% S

Then the highest percentage of sulphur is in C) FeS2

-----------------
Solution:
C) FeS2 has the highest percentage of sulphur

Moles are horrible in the garden. Alot like people who only want serious answers.

10g is 1/9 of a mole of A.

But C and D look like they have more mass of sulfur (S2) Check the atomic weight s of Mo and Fe.

Damn math is a drain on my brain. I ain't here to do you homework!

Where is YOUR work? I could tell if you showed your equations.

I'm going out with the moles in the garden. They don't ask hard questions.

i think the answer is C

32/90=0.3555
32/96=0.3333
64/120=0.5333
64/160=0.4000

it's a ratio thing and since you have 32 grams of sulfur in the first two, you just divide by the mass in 1 mole, and take the highest ratio of sulfur

when you do that, you find C is the answer because there are two sulfurs = 64g per mole of a 120g/mole formula, which gives it a 0.5333 ratio and therefore the highest percentage of sulfur per sample

your answer c is correct. To find the correct answer calculate the percentage of sulfur in each compound.
In A % of 'S' = (32/90)x 100= 34.78
In B % of 'S' = (32/96)x 100=33.33
In C% of 'S' =(2x32/120)x100 =53.33
In D % of 'S' =(2x32/160)x100 = 40.0
Since the mass of all the four compounds are same, the compound with max. % of 'S' has max. mass of 'S'

first we could desire to discover the no. of moles 6.0.33 * 10^23 atoms = one million mole 12* 10^14 atoms= ? 2*10^-9 moles now mass of one million mole = 2 g there fore mass of two*10^-9 moles= 4* 10^-9 g ok i wish u have been given u r ans........ and shop on answering ques. and taking part in chem ........bye
