I felt exactly the same as you before I started.
But you dont need to be embarresed ! Its natural, all females get it and so did your mum.
This is my story -- I was 13 and I went into the toilet and when I got up to flush the chain I saw there was blood on the tissue. I was so shocked and stood there frozen. I couldnt belive i had started my periods!
My mum was in the living room with my dad so i didnt want to tell her with my dad there. I went on the computer and told my friend and she told me to tell my mum straight away! So I went upstairs in the toilet and waited until I heard my mum come up the stairs and then went out and jst came out with it. She was really nice about it and I even started crying coz it was such a shock - but my mum sed that was normal coz u get a bit emotionall. She made me a cup of tea and gave me some pads and I lay in bed watching TV. She let me have the next day off school to get used to it.
She was so lovely to me. So dont worry about it when you start and you have to tell your mum .. coz she went through the same thing !

the more you think about telling her the more worried you will become... at the end of the day EVERY women (well 98%) have their period at some point in there life your mum has already been in the same position as you and they know how embarassing it can be.... seriously dont stress about it just go to her when shes on her own and say: 'mum, i think i have started my period today' and thats it! it wont matter to her it will be nice actually because its when a girl turns into a woman :-D

Hello, the transistion of becoming a lady from a little girl can be quite daunting especially as 'little girls' seem to becoming ladies much more quickly these days. Your mum will be expecting you to say these words and she will be very supportive and understanding. Every girl goes though this, including your mum so she knows exactly what your going though and how you are feeling

Make sure you've got some pads to carry around with you for when it does start. when you do start just find a quiet moment and say toy her 'I think I've started' that's all I did then we had a long chat. I was embarased too at first but everyone goes through it. The worst thing you can do is not tell her.

dont feel embarrassed, why not try bringing the subject up before it happens to make it easier, eg when theres an always ad on tv u could say something like "what age did u start your periods" or "do u think i will start mine soon?" this will open up a conversation with her, maybe shes embarrassed to bringthe subject up with u, anyway this will make it easier when the time comes. good luck and dont worry too much it happens to us all.

When it starts let your mom know that you would like to talk to her privately for a minute about something. Then when you get to the private area just tell her that you started your period. You say that just telling your mom "I have started my period" doesn't seem right but that's the best way to tell her because it is honest.

I was also scared of this. When I gathered up my bravery I walked up to mom and realized dad was right there, boy was I embarassed. But then I just leaned up and whispered, "Mum, I think I'm starting my period.." She laughed and showed me the tampons and pads in the bathroom. It wasn't so bad, she was understanding. I'm sure your mom will be too, every girl has to start sometime in their life. :)

What happened to me is my freshman year i came home after i took my soccer team picture and went to the bathroom. When i sat down i looked down and it was all bloody. I freaked out a little bit and sorta yelled for my mom and said 'mom, i started my period'! She was oddly happy, but its nothing to feel weird about. Obviously she had to tell her mom and so does everybody else. Maybe talk to her about you thinking your period is gonna start soon. It will be easier.
