Dearest Gentle,
I have learned we all have the capacity to be anything between the purest evil and the most genuinely golden hearted. It's what we choose to be, over the course of a lifetime, that defines what we are known to be.
The worst person you have ever heard of can be kind to someone; the most wonderful person you have ever heard of can be black-hearted to someone, too.

The greatest truth about human nature is that we are no fallen angels, but rather risen apes ;-).

Our behaviour, culture and psychology are best explained from an evolutionionist point of view. Concerning several different behavioral traits, we might ask: what environmental or cultural condition selected for this trait? For example: people may be selfish to the bone, but altruism does occur. Altruism means that you diminsh your own chance of survival in favour of someone else. Most of the times, altruism results in spending a lot of energy in the eductation of the young and helpless (humans have a loooong childhood and are only self-supporting at around 15-16-18...), thus resulting in a healthy, stable group.

This is just an example, and this is a complex question that touches upon a lot of serious research topics. In short, the greatest truth about human nature is that it originated as an reaction to its environment during a long timespan.

I don't know what is the greatest truth about human nature, but I notice all the people who answered your question thought they knew the answer.

There are many truths - how can I answer for all the human beings on this planet Earth.

Here are the lyrics to Short People:

Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
Short people got no reason
To live

They got little hands
Little eyes
They walk around
Tellin great big lies
They got little noses
And tiny little teeth
They wear platform shoes
On their nasty little feet

Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
`round here

Short people are just the same
As you and i
(a fool such as I)
All men are brothers
Until the day they die
(its a wonderful world)

Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
Short people got nobody
To love

They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
Don't want no short people
round here

That about 85 % of all people are followers. You see it every day, if a advertizement or TV, radio, etc. tells the people something is cool or "if you don't do this yuor not part of the majority" people follow what they are told is cool or looks good rather than them makinmg up there own minds. This is very obvious in fasion as well. I remeber recently there was a fad where the women where out lining there lips with a different color that there lip stick. I swer, these girls looked like they had clown faces on. But yet they went out in pubilc. Think about something you are doing or buying because the media told you that is the way it should be or that evrybody likes this.
Be a leader! Dress, do and be what you want to rather than doing it because some one else is doing it.

in my opinion the greatest truth about human nature is that he is stronger then he thinks it's a very conflict nature , i mean we go through lots of things that destroys us ! and we say I'm only a human i can't make miracles to make things right. but the truth is we are unbreakable, we are living this life not life is living us! it's in our hands to be strong and to be week, but humans pity them selves! so i think the greatest truth about human nature is weakness and strength at the same time.

hope I'm not speaking Chinese again!!
i feel like i didn't make any sense! right?

Most people want praise, and almost everyone doesn't want to hear unsolicited complaints.

Some damaged souls may lash out at a compliment, because they don't believe it's true. But, even they may be pleased by it.

(-: Selfishness is a given, but there are a lot of people who are willing to give for nothing more than a sincere "thank-you -- you've really helped me."
