The ones who want to ban gay marriage, and yet complain about smoking bans (which doesn't represent all Republicans) are for THEM living their lives as they please. Not everybody else.

Which Republicans would those be ? I'm Republican and I'm very concerned with a certain presidential candidate , who thinks I have too much free speech , and would like to socialize health care ; take my money & redistribute it ; another who touts that the wealthy prey on the poor - from his mansion that cost more than 10 poor families make in a lifetime while he basks in $400 haircuts ..WHOM is trying to control whom ? These aren't Republicans here..To each his own - but I can't be force-fed propaganda from the left while they smile & talk out of both sides of their faces - but I'm supposed to believe that - because they say so ..How about the poor who are starving in certain countries because liberal do-gooders forbid them to earn a living ? I never heard of food nazi's - the only food nazi that comes to mind is the soup nazi on Seinfeld . Republicans are not against gays - thats another lib myth ; nor are we against the poor ; or minorities . I do wonder about a party that has the constant need to tell you who they are for - as tho they are alone - when the truth is - thats the way most Americans feel . We help the poor ; we don't hate gays . We take it for granted thats how most people feel . We don't feel the need to brag & convince others that we feel more righteous than thou . As for gay marriage , I agree gays need to have a legal union ; I think it's shameful that many have no legal leg to stand on when a mate dies or becomes ill ; However , the word marriage has meant man & wife , and my feeling is just that it needs another title , if you will - with the same legal benefits/ ceremony/etc. as marriage . It's none of my business how two consenting adults live . My life is mine to control - what in the world do I need trying to control others ?? It just isn't so . The difference between a Democrat & Republicans in office , is , Republicans know we are all capable of running our own lives ; whereas Democrats KNOW we are not , and need the government to run every aspect - from the weather to what farmers grow - to who our doctor is and what radio program we like to hear . The mainstream media has been putting out propaganda for years & I have quit falling for that venom . Live & let live .

Republicans have historically claimed that they are anti-overregulation by governments, as this interferes with basic free market economics and generally feels like being "nannied" (cared for by society?).
The regulations and limits are still there but they bring them in in sneaky ways, by the back door, so to speak! (Pun intended!)

Libertarians are for people living their lives as they please., liberals will interfere in some minor matters such as unhealthful food, but conservatives want to restrict the most private and personal decisions that people make involving marriage, sexuality and reproduction. The main reason is their religious convictions, so in a very basic way, they're forcing their religious beliefs on others. There's nothing more controlling than that.

Gay marriage, for thousands of years, has been banned. Family is foundational to our society, so that is why Republicans support traditional marriage. Gays have a right to do what they want, and I have no problem with that, but a gay relationship does not qualify as marriage ... so too with marrying your sister or multiple people.
Now, banning trans fats, smoking etc etc, is an attempt to regulate behavior that has always been allowed. I smoke and I eat trans fats ... why should the government get to tell me I have to quit smoking and start eating a diet of rice cakes?

It isn't that conservatives want to ban gay marriage. They want marriage to be recognized for the institution that it is. A religious function between a man and a woman that the government recognizes.
Conservatives do not say that gay people cannot be married, they can, they just have to marry someone of the opposite sex. For anybody who says oh you should be able to marry whoever you love, know that I am in love with Jessica Alba and I doubt I will be able to marry her any time soon.

They can get married. They just can't get married to another person of the same sex because then it isn't marriage. They can still live together and do all things of a married couple. It is a definition of a particular type of civil union that is involved with children. I know it isn't the same thing but shouldn't brother and sister be allowed to marry since you want to remove controls or mother and son.

Well you see conservatives like to gripe about one thing and do the complete opposite, they will bich about the constitution, but leave power in their hands for another 10 years and the constitution will be gone, they moan about cutting down spending and increase spending to extremes, they claim to be against religous extremism but most of the time are extremists themselves, somewhere along the way they put up a wall of delsuion between them and the rest of the world and lost the ability to look at themselves with any sort of objectivity.

if the homosexuals (gay means happy- NOT male with male sex, NOT female with female sex) want to perform perverse decrepit degenerate abnormalities in the privacy of their own domiciles, then go ahead. (as long as you're NOT sodomizing or molesting children; in that case yous deserve the death penalty)
as far as legal marriage is concerned, it has always been and always should be, reserved for a man and a woman. it is the only normal way to produce children, and it is the only normal way to raise children.
homosexuals can always play house and pretend that they're married. That shouldn't be a problem for them, 'cause they're always goin' around pretending that they're normal, when in fact they're NOT.
