Visit http://www.iluvtotravel.info/ , read 'The hunt for a cheap place to stay' and then click on the various links in the Book Cheap Accomodation section on the top right hand side.. You can choose between hotels or hostels.

A really nice place is Pensao Beira Del Mar, we stayed there for 9 nights and it was lovely. You can book it through www.hostelworld.com, that's where my husband found it.
