I see a lot of people doing this to their questions and the questions aren't even remotely funny.

Its to convey the tone of the question.... its hard to tell a persons emotion online. The question must've been funny to them and they wanted you to understand that it was meant to be taken that way.

I don't think it makes it funny by adding lol at the end !!! When I use lol it's because I think i am funny or want people who read me to know I am laughing or smiling or in a good mood, etc. Get it !!! If you don't like my tree then don't pick my peaches !!!!

I only wright lol when I think that something was funny and the asker didn't intend it to happen. I also do it because I don't want anyone thinking I'm coming off as a jerk, that I'm having a little fun and I want to add my piece to that person's humor.

"lol" is the printed version of a laugh-track like they have on comedies on TV. It's to let you know that what just happened or what was just said is supposed to be funny, but if you have to tell people it's funny, well....it's probably not.
Plus, some people do it just to be part of the group and feel like they belong.

A) It's the modern version of an unneeded comma, an afterthought meant to evoke humor with the reader.
b) Because they think it's cool.
c) There is no thought behind it. Kind of like how they vote in Florida.

I notice people doing that all the time- maybe it's a nervous reaction because they actually know what they are posting is not at all funny.

You may not think what I answer is funny but 25 other people may just have my sense of humor and they DO GET IT> Sometimes I add lol to let the readers know to NOT TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.........ok?

I think it is because they don't want you to think them as a habitual whiner type or they want you to know they can take a joke from you.. something like that .. I myself prefer the little evil slant that" heheheee" gives to my communications. and I do not care for the muahuahahahaa it just loses the effectiveness in text and not coming out of Bela Lugosi's mouth
