In the past several years, all you hear from these idiots are how to live your life. Do you realize that your rights to live as you please are being taken away one by one? They always say it's for your own good to live a healthy life according to their beliefs. Why then have all my health nut friends who jogged, didn't smoke, drink or eat fried foods dropped dead while I'm still here? At least I don't jog or drink. lol

Yes I am not only talking about what to eat but all the stupid rules and regulations that tell us what to do with our lives. As long as we are not infringing on others rights, why don't they just but out. My momma already raised me once and I no longer need a parent. As far as you rhubardi, you are the buffoon who will one day be lying in a hospital dying from your good habits and nasty attitude.

I don't think there should be laws against what people ingest or smoke as long as they don't affect other's right. (i.e. smoking in public places). It is only right, however, to tell people the results of tests that discover the dangers of certain things. Then the people should choose for themselves. This would also apply to the so-called "drug war." Led and maintained mostly by the far right. We need education, not legislation. But some "fed up with liberals" think its OK to legislate some things.. just not others.

The fluoridated water is especially scary. Do some reasearch into that. It has never been proven safe and in fact has never even been tested by the FDA. Study after study after study has proven that even at the amount of 1ppm (the amount in our water is 3 times that much), it can cause cancer and many other problems with various systems and organs in the body. Studies have also never definitively shown that it has any effect on cavities whatsoever. In fact, a 50 years study on fluoridated water vs non, the only difference they could see was incidences of dental fluorosis (pitting of the teeth caused by fluoride) in the treated area. That and the young girls in that area went into their menses earlier than the girls in the non-fluoridated area. Studies have further shown that what little effect it may have on cavities was from topical application (meaning that it was put on the teeth) so why are we forced to drink it? The AMA put out a warning a few years ago that you should not give fluoridated water to babies under 1 year. It's in toothpaste and on the toothpaste it says DO NOT SWALLOW. It's in food. Why do they put it in the water? Think about it, people. This is a subject too large to write all the information needed here but I encourage everybody to read up on it. If they are putting a biologically reactive drug in your water that has never been proven safe or helpful, you need to know about it. Common Sense: That does not remove fluoride from your water.

Look at the bigger picture here. The Government wants control of everything, to bring in their New World Order.

The "test case' was begun in New Zealand, now spreading to Australia. Just try speaking to a few New Zealanders. But people blindly believe everything they are told by the Media, who are controlled by the Government.

Yes, EVERYONE should be tired of this control over every area of our lives.

I think that some in government have gone too far. They certainly have a right to an opinion, but to enforce so many of their beliefs is wrong. I'm a personal freedoms guy, but freedom isn't free. Vote early and often!

Yes, you have the right to live as you like, but, the simple fact is when many of Americans age and have major health problems brought upon by addiction or another, it is us, the rest of the people who have to foot the bill. Many do not have enough to cover their own medical expenses.

I don't think that the government is making any rules and regulations telling you how to live your life. They do need to regulate corporations to make sure the food and other products they produce are safe. Just look at what is going on in China. This is a country with little regulation, and all of their dangerous products are getting into the U.S. due to a lack of concern or regulation by this administration.

I do think that part of the government's job is to provide accurate information about the benefits and dangers of various foods and activities. Again, they do a poor job at this. For example, their abstinence-only programs lead to unwanted pregnancies and the spread of AIDS and other STDs, because young people who don't agree aren't told about condoms and other forms of birth control. The same is true with drugs. The government tries to scare you, then when you try pot and nothing bad happens to you, you know the government is lying and everything else they tell you is ignored. Better to provide honest information and let people decide for themselves how to live their lives, and rather than make drugs illegal and put people in jail who harmed no one but themselves, offer free treatment to those who want it.

If you are referring to smoking, no one is trying to force you to quit. No one is trying to prevent you from smoking. We (including me) are just trying to make sure that your secondhand smoke does not harm or kill anyone other than you. That means we need to have laws to make sure that your smoke doesn't affect others. Not only does this mean you can't smoke indoors in public, but eventually you won't be able to smoke outdoors unless it is in a place where others won't be breathing the smoke. You will still be able to smoke in your home, as long as no children will be breathing the smoke or smelling it. You will be able to smoke inside your own apartment, but only if you can prevent the smoke from seeping through the doors, ceilings, and walls so that your neighbors arent harmed. Right now, I live in a second floor garden apartment, and I can't open my windows because other people walk by and smoke and it gets into the apartment. That isn't fair to me. Why should I have to suffer to prevent myself from being poisoned from other people smoking? Isn't it the obligation of the people smoking to make sure that their smoke isn't getting into my window?

As far as the trans-fats, I live in NYC and do see your point there. If these fats help make the cost of the food lower or make the food taste better, it should be up to the individual whether or not to consume it. But a large part of the problem is that restaurants don't have to provide this nutritional information. That is probably why they are trying to ban trans-fats. A better solution would be to make all restaurants provide the same nutritional information that is required on packaged foods, that will make it easier for people to decide for themselves.

As long as they aren't passing too many laws about it, I have no problem with people whose business is national health telling us what they've discovered about the state of national health. I'm not sure that makes them "elite snobs," just experts in their field. So far, we still have the right to ignore them all we like.

I do believe that there's a quiet bigotry about weight in this country--but that could be because I'm still overweight :-)

Giving nutritional advice is fine but the groups who come out every year and try to ban things like coconut oil or trans fat are certainly getting tiring.

no, you aren't, although the media might give you that impression. The media would have you believe that nobody is against the government's intrusion in private industy and private lives. They also would have you believe that there is no support for Ron Paul, and he doesn't have a chance.
