I just saw the movie "The Illusionist". It was really great, but not as good as The Prestige which had a greater twist. I have a few questions.

The first one is how the Orange Tree works. Apparently it is real in real life and they barely used CGI in the movie.

2nd was the people spirits. in the movie, were they illusions or real?

3rd was when the illusionist dissapeared himself, was that a illusion or real?

So that the crew would not have to use CGI to "fake" the magical illusions seen in the movie, Norton received intensive training in sleight of hand and other stage magic techniques from British magician James Freedman and American magician Ricky Jay.

1. I dunno how it worked but it was based on a real illusion.
The trick of the Orange Tree was invented by a 19th Century French magician named Robert-Houdin.
And you can buy it here http://www.murphysmagic.com/The-Orange-Tree-Illusion-by-John-and-Jack-Moyer-Trick?sc=7

2. They were illusions the part where the inspector watches the video projection is a clue on how he did it

3. It was another illusion

At the end when his whole plan is revealed its showing how it was all fake. Its like he says "Everything you have seen here has been an illusion. "

first question
they did use cgi to do the orange tree trick...BUT you can pause the movie when the detective looks at the plans for the trick and see actual plans, chances are they are fictional but you can look at them

second question
I'm pretty sure they were illusions because at the end edward norton was projected as an allusion (answer to number three) and edward norton was alive, so it was a recorded projection of himself, the same with jessica biel's character, so in theory so are all of the other "spirits"

hope this helps

As far as I understand, all of those illusions were courtesy of Hollywood Magic and were not real illusions.

Where did you hear that they were real?
