when i was younger, there was a non-animated movie of hans christian andersen's original version of the little mermaid. i liked it a lot but i was really young when i watched it so i don't remember much. i know this isn't good info so do you guys know any other good mermaid-related movies?

it wasn't a comedic movie like splash, it was kind of a sad one. the prince actually fell in love with a different girl at the end. and ariel was sitting on the beach alone watching the prince and the other girl walk away.

...the only other film that I know of, that depicts a version of Hans Christian Anderson's Little Mermaid, is a part-live-action/part-animated fantasy/adventure, from 1966, called "The Daydreamer"...
In the film, a boy named Chris (who turns out to be Hans Christian Anderson) gets into adventures, mischief and trouble, when he fantasies about little mermaids, ugly ducklings, tailor scam-artists who are making the emperer's new clothes, and a little girl named Thumbilina...
When Chris succumbs to his fantasies, the live action becomes the type of puppet animation done by the Rankin/Bass company, who also did all those Christmas specials, like "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer", and "The Year without a Santa Claus"...

I remember this too, but i am having a hard time trying to find anything. This isn't the version i saw buy maybe you did. In 1976 a live action film, entitled Rusalochka, a joint production by the USSR and Bulgaria, which is the Russian take on the Hans Chistian Andersen's version.
