They know nothing about any real democratic-socialistic Countries , example : Switzerland. They have capitalistic structures - Direct Democracy but are 100 % liberal..... a very wealthy Country

Because Cold War scare tactics die hard. The fear factor that these very different political systems might in some way be 'conspiratorially' linked can always be called on to produce a 'patriotic' conservative result on polling day.
Some folks have wised up, but we had to do it by ourselves.

They treat "Democrat", "socialist", "liberal", and "communist" as if they're all always synoymous because they want to paint the other side in the worst possible light. It's easier than finding anything good to say about their own party and makes them feel like they're scoring points against the opposition.
