Blood test. Lifelong males are typically bigger though. Like most reptiles they are A-sexual and have the ability to produce either half of a zygote. So the correct answer would be it depends on what side of the bed it gets out of in the morning....

The easiest way to tell is the male has longer claws than the female, it is rather easy to spot out. Female claws are short and kinda stumpy looking and the males are long and almost sharp looking.

Why don't you take your turtle to a store that sells reptiles and ask them. Also ask them to show you the difference so you will know.
