Since its just going to be for storage I don't believe anything would be required. I would make sure you insulate it.
Some things to consider are.
Drywall can be more labor intensive compared to paneling for a DIY project.
Bead-board may fit the age of the house better.
Which materials are going to be easier to get to the attic.
You can always call your local building code enforcement office and ask them.

You can use bead-board, paneling, drywall, plywood/osb or tempered hard board. If you are considering turning this into a spare room use what you will want for that room. You shouldn't need a permit as you are finishing and not altering the structure. If you are going to insulate the roof rafters with batts you will need to install Styrofoam vents under the batts along the eve side for proper ventilation of the roof. Also now would be a good time to consider adding any electrical work that may be desired later on. My grandparents home had an attic like that, it was the most used space in the house by the grand kids.

No drywall is required for a storage place. If you're going to keep liquid stuff up there, you'll need to insulate and poly all the walls and ceilings and make sure heat is getting there.
If it's going to be a bedroom you'll need a permit and lots of money to make the imnprovements!!!!

As one answer states you have Options you might want to consider. Certainly one might be what you intend to store, and adding insulation. Beadboard or paneling may be just as expensive and labor intensive as drywall.
Beyond that; you wouldn't have to "FINISH" drywall, if the space is just storage, but you could if you ever changed your mind about what use the space might be suited for.

We have a variation of that out here in the Old West called Reverse Lawn Darts. We get a bag full of kittens and let loose one drunk porcupine and someone yells, "There's yer target!"
