You don't sound stupid. In fact , I'll give your question a star!! It just means a few days late, or the possibility of being an unwanted pregnancy. (Which is STUPID.) :)

Generally if you're "late" that means your body hasn't shown any period (blood) when it should have, that could be a day late, a month late, however the length of time has been it means nothing has shown up.

People say they're late usually until they get it. It's usually only a few days but if it doesn't come then they probably call it a "missed period" if it takes a few weeks.
