Stanley's tool sets are cheaper but are they as good as craftsman's tools. Which one is better?

Stanley is not what it used to be.
Far from what they was when my Dad sold Stanley in the '50's.

You are better off with Craftsman. If anything, for the service and warranty.

Craftsman products are made by quality manufacturers and for the price, are a pretty good product.

I buy a lot of tools, mostly replacing lost or stolen tools, I have a mix, Stanley, Evercraft(NAPA) and Craftsman, I have not had a problem with any of them, I have Stanley ratchets, sockets and they have stood up, I do industrial maintenance, so I have had to work with some pretty hard to loosen items. I do LOVE the feel of a Craftsman wrench tho, it just feels right to me, I would not pass up Stanley, in fact I might end up buying more Stanleys this week

Sounds like you're asking about mechanics tools ? I think Craftsmen are fine, and they do have a lifetime warranty (just make sure they're crafstmen, sears sells another line that has no warranty). I broke down on a job site last year without the right tools, and bought a set of Crescent at Costco for about $60.00. They have a lifetime warranty also, and i use them almost daily now. If your talking about other types of tools, Crafstmen still has some decent hand tools, but DO NOT buy any of their power tools - absolute crap!

We like to stick with Craftsman products because of our faith in Sears replacing any that may have a problem. That doesn't mean that Stanley isn't a good brand too.

many store brands now have lifetime guarantees. many don't cover professional use, though. for cordless tools, I love my milwaukee V18 lithium ion set. they also make a higher voltage lithium ion set. the key difference that led me to milwaukie is that they have a power readout on the battery, so you can check your battery charge before you crawl under the floor. the advantage to lithium ion is that they run full power until they are dead. I also favor milwaukee for corded tools. of course, there are specialty tools that are very brand oriented. Stanley Fat Max tape measure, Vaughn hammer, etc. For best overall in a matching brand set, I think Craftsman is still the most complete. Snap-On is a high end line of tools that is rated for commercial use, but is not really necessary for homeowner use, unless you just want the best.

Craftsman tools will be replaced or repaired by Sears. Most others you have to ship them back for service or replacement.
