This sounds more like a statement instead of a question. But anything could keep someone guarded from the world. Like afraid that people will get to know the real you and then not like you. Or afraid of all the dangers and hazards the world comes across.

I can think of a thousand things.
For example, didn't you just have your identity stolen this past week?
That came straight to mind along with the people I have seen complaining in the Forum about malicious people taking their information from their profiles and either cloning the account or emailing the person with malicious notes. That happen a lot to people on the leaderboards.
I can also think that perhaps some if not all of their communications come from a secure area that wishes to stay that way.
It may not be that they don't have much choice.
I am guessing it could be all or anyone of those reasons.
