or extroverts vs. introverts. Are people genetically one way or the other? Or is it strictly environment and/or experiences that make us this way or the other?

It's a little bit of both but mostly environment. I spent alot of time by myself as a child and learned how to do it fairly well.

Remember Tom Hanks in Castaway ... I wouldn't end up talking to a volleyball.

There are 2 aspects here. One is the social and anti-social and the second is the type of personalities like an introvert or extroverts.
Man is a social being and this nature is by birth, as he grows how develop his friendship how good or bad they are is the basic reason for his behavior, if he meets good he may get good nature but he mingles with anti social elements naturally he becomes bad all the time.
An introvert or an extrovert is not anti social but they are moody not much talkative or they talk too much they want many as friends. By birth their traits develops in case of these 2 types but May change as the age and experience changes in a man.

I think non-social would be a less prejudiced term. Anti-social usually refers to criminal or pro-criminal behavior.

I think introversion and extroversion are both normal and healthy traits and that they are mostly genetic. They can be shaped by the environment and society.
