Ok...no more Fall Out Boy vs. questions for now. An actually serious question between 2 greats.

Some favorite songs too.

BTW, those who saw AIC live, how was it?

This is tough, out of the 4 well known grunge bands I always thought that these two were the ones worth talking about. Nirvana and Pearl Jam were decent and had their good moments, but the 2 you mentioned blow them away. I'm going to go with Soundgarden, not because I think any less of AIC.. but I have to pick one.

A few of my favorite Soundgarden songs are:
Blow Up the Outside World
Fell on Black Days
Rhinosaur
Spoonman
Head Down
etc.

Alice In Chains:
Would?
Down in a Hole
Over Now
Again
Got Me Wrong
etc.

Alice In Chains, that's for sure. I started listening to them about two years ago so I never been to a concert. But I have the AIC Unplugged album and DVD. It's very inspiring, it's been a inspiration to me since I saw it. There ain't anything better.

Man In The Box
Bleed The Freak
We Die Young
Angry Chair
Killer Is Me
Down In A Hole
Sea Of Sorrow
Rooster
Dam The River
Them Bones...

Actually, when I think about it, all of their songs are so damn good, that it's just hard to pick a few. All of their songs rule!

ALICE IN CHAINS FOREVER!!!
(RIP Layne Staley)

Good question - I'll go with Soundgarden. I came from an earlier generation of hard rockers (child of the 70s), but I can distinctly remember the first time I heard Soundgarden and calling my friends and saying this was the best metal band I had heard in ages. No disrespect to Alice In Chains (an awesome band), but frankly their vocal quality and guitar riffs can't compare on average against Soundgarden (athough I might give them the nod for the rhythym section).

Soudgarden. Chris Cornell is a monster of creativity and Kim Thayil was a very serious guitarist. Some of my favourite songs:

*Ty Cobb
*Big Dumb Sex
*Rusty Cage
*Slaves And Bulldozers
*Fell on Black Days
*Blow Up the Outside World
*Let Me Drown

However, I love Alice In Chains. But Soundgarden got everlasting melodies and better lyrics by far.

ARGGGGGHHHHHH
Did it to me again didn't ya!!!!!!
Alice in Chains is in my personal Top 10
Layne Staley is one of the Greatest Most Unique Vocalists of All Time and Jerry Cantrell is one Smokin Guitarist
Soundgarden is also in my Personal Top 25
Chris Cornell is the Most Powerful Vocalist since Robert Plant
They are my 2 Absolute Favorite Grunge Metal Groups
But I'm gonna Choose
Alice In Chains

This is one of the best questions ever. AIC was much darker and rocked harder, but I think Chris Cornell was a better singer than Layne Staley, and Kim Thayil was a better guitarist than Jerry Cantrell. As far as who's outright the better band, I don't know, but this is an excellent question.

Alice in Chains. Musically, they were the best thing about the nineties. Too bad about the lead vocalist, though. I saw them open for Kiss in '96. Was really looking forward to it, but was dissapointed. Maybe they were just having a bad day or got too junked up or something.

AIC ruled back in the day. I seen them in concert when they were touring with Sepultura (or however you spell it) and Ozzy. Layne had the broken leg at the time and they wheeled him out on stage in a wheelchair. During the song "Would?", he jumped up out of the chair and was hoping around. It was good stuff. To bad he was such a f*ck up. Oh well.

What, FOB wasn't available? I am shocked. AIC destroys them convincingly, not close on any level.

We Die Young - Layne wasn't joking
Bleed The Freak
Them Bones
Down in a Hole
Angry Chair
Would?
Grind
What the Hell Have I

Out of those 2 id have to say soundgarden..black hole sun and burden in my hands are my favorite songs by them.. but if u included pearl jam)who were a major force back in the seattle grunge days) id have to say they were the best of that era.

Not that AIC is bad..just slightly below soundgarden
