well first is it an optical mouse(Laser, a red light on bottom) Or a Balled Mouse(No Pun intended)(rolling ball at bottom)
optical mouses - the light can die out, you can easily break them i used to break them all the time by slamming them against the computer desk when the computer would freeze i stopped doing that becuase of financial issues (ten replacement mouses arnt cheap)
Balled Mouses- take the ball out and clean off the little rods inside its a dirty job but someone(YOU!!!) has to do it.
after the gunk is cleaned off it should slide like Micheal Jackson doing the moonwalk (NO!!! i do not like MJ hes a gay pedfial)

Do you mean a "real" mouse .or. your PC mouse?
Best advise: Don't fix it, if it ain't broke.

if it has a ball in it you can open it up and clean it. it might have gotten dusty or have fuzzy stuff in it. but if its a new laser kind, you should just get a new one.
