i dont get it, when females listen to male bands people dont care...but i take all the crap in the world from my friends and people at our school becuz i like some female music artists/bands like atomic kitten, ciara and beyonce

ok lemme address a few issues that people keep bringing up
1)no i'm not gay
2)no i dont care what people think of me or what i listen to, i'm just curious as to why they act that way
3)my friends are good friends, they just get annoying with stuff like this
luke-well u and me agree on the main issue, we dont have the same taste of music but we can argue about that on another day lol

The double standard is crazy, and it extends beyond music. I defintely understand what you mean. Like boys can't play with girl toys (Barbies, Easy-Bake-Oven, etc), but girls can play boy stuff (Hot Wheels, Legos, sports). I think it has to do with males asserting their masculinity and dominance. Like why would a guy "soften" himself up enjoying girl things, if guy stuff is so great. And for this same reason, girls who listen to music made by guys are seen as simply enjoying a product that is made by the "better gender." All of this stuff probably happens subconsciously. But hey, the double standard is a double-edged sword because guys can get away with other things a lot more than girls can (like sex, drinking a lot, not buying people presents lol).

Don't worry, one of the failings of modern music is the boys sing to boys and girls to girls syndrome. I would rather hear a love song from a woman than a man any old day.
Hurting songs and power ballads are man stuff though.
Super sacharine women's songs are the thing for slow dancing the babes with.

There's nothing wrong with listening to "female" music artists. More power to you, in fact. Whoever is giving you crap is not worth your time. If they are really your friends, they shouldn't care what kind of music you listen to.
Plus, who says that females don't get crap for listening to "male" bands? I listen to Cradle of Filth (which I suppose is pretty manly), and I get ridiculed for it. But who cares? Music is music, we're all listening for the same purpose: to enjoy.

There's nothing wrong with that at all... I would never even consider this to be "socially UN-acceptable". That's just ridiculous. The reason that people at your school act that way is simply out of immaturity... I wouldn't worry about it if I were you... you like what you like & that's no body's perogotive but your own.

they're just idiots! There's nothing wrong with listening to female artist if your a guy! Who cares what they think anyways! Just ignore them, they'll stop botthering you if you just tell them: you know what i can listen to anything i want to, your not in charge of the music i like!

My partner positively drools over girls aloud, dolly parton, barbara striesland, nellie, beyonce, etc.etc.etc because because because he fancies the pants off them and is just totally mesmerised. They can do no wrong.
Your friends are either jealous or battling with their own sexuality.
Worry when you start buying tickets to see Judy Garland live.

Men also listen to a bunch of guys who sound like women.
