i recently seen a tv tuner for sale. would anyone know how good the reception is and if its worth it. and what type and to shed some light.

TV tuners usually work well if you're receiving a cable feed.
If I was going to get TV on my computer I think I would invest in www.slingplayer.com -- it lets you remotely control (from laptp, desktop, pocket pc, etc) your satellite, cable, etc box -- pretty good streaming on a LAN or internet connection with decent bandwidth.

Got an H.P. media center, built in t.v. tuner, hooks up to cable or whatever has coax.
