Orthos Systemic insect killer. Last year lemon tree was being destroyed, branches dying one by one. Bought systemic, and a gallon sprayer mixed with water, and my tree is still alive, full of lemons. I spray it probably once every two-three months. Can purchase at Home Depot or Osh, maybe even wal-mart.

In our area (Wisconsin) we have a problem with Birch Bore and Emerald Ash Bore. There is a product called Acecap that take care of borers. Acecap is a plug. You drill a small hole (1/4") and insert this plug into the tree trunk. Spacing this plug every 6". I do it about 12" up from the ground. Don't worry the tree will heal-over the plug. I try to do this in March (before the sap starts flowwing up) After I pound the plug in, I paint the area with a latex paint to match the bark and to seal the plug in.
The chemical in the plug is Di-Systron. It's not recommened to use this product on trees that have fruit that you may eat.
If you don't want to bore a hole in your trees or the trees are too small (in dia.), You can also buy Di-Systron in a granular form. At the drip line (of the tree canopy) make a hole about 6" deep x by around 1" wide and pour the granuals in (but not up to the top) leaving the product short an inch. Fill the remaining with topsoil to seal in the chemical. Create these holes every 6' around the tree. This procedure requires you to water to get the chemical into the trees root system. The plug way, you don't have to water, the tree does the work.
DI-SYSTRON in it's "Pure" form is very poisonest, thankfully you can't get it that way. You must be licensed (sp)to buy and use it in it's Pure form.

You don't have to have a licenses (sp) to use the plugs or granuals as they are not in the pure form

*Sevin*. And reapply weekly. Make sure you read ALL the directions before use, and be careful.

Borers are notoriously hard to kill. They are afterall in the wood.

If you can see the hole slide a wire in.
