To start, I have an eMachines W6409. I wanted to know what would be the best video card for "THIS" machine. I'm also going to upgrade my RAM. Just would like to be able to play the good games on this thing. Thanks in advance.

If you have the default from their site (http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=W6409)
then the best card would depend on your power supply wattage. Like everyone else has said, you can go with the 8800. But, if you have a standard 450W or less power supply, your going to under volt the thing, and probably surge your motherboard or even kill your cpu. I would recommend you check your power supply, and because there are no real DirectX 10 applications or games out yet on the market, to go with a 7900 GS because as far as DirectX 9c, on board ram, and the pixel pipelines, this is the superior model. But that's just my engineering experience.

i would also recommend to do what don m said cause especially emachines are not that good and probably your mother board is not compatible with the graphics card so you can probably buy a new computer that is a lot better and the geforce 8800 is very expensive it's like 600 dollars so i would suggest a new computer but i am not a computer tech or anything i just know a lot about computers i would ask a real computer tech
good luck with your computer

The BEST video card that would fit this machine today would be an Nvidia 8800 Ultra factory overclocked model, but I'd recommend something like an Nvidia 8800 GTS, or 8600 GTS if your budget doesn't stretch that far.

If thats the case, computers are dirt cheap right now.
Get a top of the line in a computer that will do what you want instead of fooling around with an average brand that is limited as to what you can do. Go to Dell
